But those moments matter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Especially after fear.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Especially after silence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Especially after adults finally decide listening is more important than protecting themselves.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
And maybe that is the part I still carry most heavily now.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Not that monsters exist.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
We already know they do.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It is that children often survive for years not because nobody notices warning signs, but because too many systems teach adults to mistake caution for wisdom.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
To wait.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
To soften language.
To avoid escalation.
To protect institutions from discomfort before protecting children from harm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Lily almost disappeared inside that waiting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
That is the truth that still keeps me awake sometimes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
But another truth keeps me going too.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
One teacher paid attention.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
One nurse documented carefully.
One forensic interviewer knew how to ask the right questions.
One CPS worker moved quickly.
One frightened child decided to trust adults one final time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
And because of that, three children slept safely somewhere else by Monday night.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Sometimes that is what courage looks like.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Not grand speeches.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Not dramatic heroics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
